How To Fall In Love With Hiring

Updated: Jun 25

5 Steps To Transform Your Process

There is nothing more stressful than having to do something critical to your business, but feeling unprepared and inexperienced when you start. Taxes, anyone?

But hiring doesn't have to be like taxes! By using my resources and tips, you can become your own hiring expert and save yourself the mistakes only 20 years of experience can teach you!

Here's the simple process I follow when hiring new applicants that you can follow, along with links to resources in case you don't want to start from scratch!

My simple hiring steps!

  1. Post a killer job description to attract the right candidates! Be clear with what job you are hiring for and always ask the interested candidates to take a next step that requires some thought. ACCESS MY JOB DESCRIPTION DOWNLOADS!

  2. Have an immediate screening step built into your process! Don't just ask applicants to email you a resume. It will take you hours to comb through them all and none of them will really help you know your candidates. Instead, have an immediate screening step in place that will help you get to know the candidate and their skills better. It doesn't have to be complicated, but it will save you lots of time when you see who actually takes the time to follow-up with your next step. GRAB MY CUSTOMIZABLE SCREENING TOOL HERE!

  3. Select your top candidates and have them demonstrate their skills in a project based test! It's tryout time for your candidates. Have them show you the skills they possess so you can accurately assess their fit. Would you expect to make the varsity football team without first trying out? Your candidates should fully expect to show their skills to prove their value to the team! You shouldn't have even talked directly to your candidates yet in order to prevent your own bias from coming in and clouding your judgement. Instead, lean on the results of this skills demonstration to help you find the best standout candidates!

  4. Now interview your top candidates in person or on zoom! This is when you will get the best feel for who your top pick will be. Ask open ended questions and really pay attention to their answers. By following a guideline and asking each applicant the same questions, it helps you really line up your people side by side to compare them accurately! FOLLOW MY INTERVIEW QUESTIONS & GUIDELINES

  5. Select your best hire, based on skills and fit! By following these guidelines, you should have a pretty clear picture of who your candidates really are and you can trust that anyone you hire will be excellent for your team. There are never guarantees when hiring, but by screening well, you can reduce your risk and put yourself in a great spot.
