Lighten Your Mental Load

The simple practice I use to calm my racing mind

Imagine this: you lay down to sleep after a long and productive day. You are exhausted and all you want to do is fall into a deep and dreamless sleep to recover from your day. Suddenly, your brain turns on.

Did you remember to tell that client about the update to their contract today or did you forget? What about that big meeting tomorrow with your team? You can't forget to mention the launch changes! And what about that genius Instagram reel idea you had last week? Did you write it down?

The nighttime mental panic is real! And the trouble is that it doesn't just happen at night, it can be a constant stress you carry with you. The uneasiness of feeling like there is something you have forgotten can ruin the mental peace of even the most savvy business owner!

Finding a way to lessen my heavy mental load has been the most transformative thing I've done to change my life and here's how you can do it too.

The Simple Way I Lightened My Mental Load

I created topical cheat sheets to brain dump my thoughts, plans, and ideas. Let me show you how!

Step 1: List all your meetings and projects in one place. Use whatever organizational system you like best to get started. I use Monday.com to organize my work life (see my example below). You can also use any similar program to use this technique. The Notes app on your phone could even work, but the beauty of this system is that everything that could take up your mental space is listed in one organized place and ready to receive that mental load you have been carrying around.

Step 2: Every time you have a new thought or idea, add it to the notes/comments section of your list! I use this section (see below) to keep a running list of anything and everything I need to remember for my upcoming meetings or tasks all throughout my week. Monthly team meeting notes practically write themselves now as I open my running list and see all the notes I've left myself throughout the previous month that I no longer have to carry around in my head all the time. This simple strategy has increased my efficiency and decreased my mental load in a significant way and it can help you too!

I started this using this little trick last year and nothing has proved more helpful in removing the nagging feeling I used to constantly have that there was SOMETHING I WAS FORGETTING.

Not convinced it will work for you? Try it out for a week and see if it helps! There are many other methods people use, but for me, this has been the most effective way to lighten my mental load consistently.
