in the world of fake resumes!
We've all heard it said: Tailor your resume to the job you are applying for in order to stand out! It doesn't matter if you have the actually experience they want. Just fake it now and then sell them on your other skills when you get an interview!
This advice is EVERYWHERE and as a hiring manager I think it's a horrible way for applicants to not only be deceptive, but also to waste the time of good people everywhere.
With experts actually encouraging people to twist the truth of their resumes in order to land an interview, no wonder it's hard for companies, not to mention solo entrepreneurs, to find good hires to help grow their businesses! As someone who has seen hundreds of applicants for various positions, I can tell you that there is an easy way around this deceptive practice that can help you land the BEST candidate and also save you from wasting hours on these fakers.
So how do businesses sort through these pretenders to find the actual best fit WITH the experience they need? It's all in how you screen your applicants, and I have a simple and effective method I use that I'm going to share with you now!
My ONE screening method to save you HOURS on your hiring journey:
Create a simple screening form that you immediately send to each applicant prior to reading resumes, weeding out the real contenders from the fakers! Let me show you how:
Go to your google drive and click New, then Google Forms to create a simple questionnaire that will weed out the quality applicants.
Example questions:
Skills question:
*What programs are you proficient in? Mark only programs you can demonstrate proficiency in as you will be asked to show your skill level if you proceed to the next interview stage. (List the specific apps or programs you use like Convertkit, Shopify, Thrive Cart, Kajabi, etc.) Common scenario question:
*What would you do if we received an angry email from a current client or customer? What steps would you take to resolve the issue? (Customize this question to an actual real situation you expect this person to handle in the position.)
Self assessment question:
*Rank your skills/strengths in order from best to worst. Select each number only once. (Categories to include: Written communication, verbal communication, problem solving, self-directed work, etc.)

Simply respond to each applicant with this screening form and use it to find the top applicants who have real skills that match your needs. Don't let trumped up resumes throw you for a loop!
