Why Your Business Needs the 'Not-You' to Thrive
Be honest, when you think about growing your team, sometimes it feels like nobody can do things better than you can. You need to hire, but when a typical small creative business owners start to look around for that help, they find they are staring into a sea of familiar faces.
It's common for our community to reflect our own passions and interests, which is great for support, but often the opposite of what we need in an employee. Let me explain.
The temptation to find someone with similar skills that you possess might at first feel like the best move. Can they take some of the daunting tasks off your plate without much training? Sure! But what they can't do is fill in the holes for the tasks you are not already the most efficient at handling yourself. Problem solving taxes? Organizing account outreach? Payment recovery? These are all the things that you likely HAVE to do, but probably don't WANT to do.
That is why hiring your alter-ego might just be the perfect move for you. One key to growing your business is finding people skilled in areas you are not. The truth is, your daily flow is often interrupted by these pesky details and your time is best spent doing what ONLY YOU CAN DO.
Believe it or not, there are people who love organizing workflows and finding the perfect email snippet to speed up communication. When a loathed task is removed from your plate and given to someone who loves it instead, magic starts to happen! Things that held you back are no longer barriers. You will rise to the next level faster than you can imagine. But it's all about finding that right fit.
One note of caution: don't let your EGO get in the way of growing your business!
I've seen many leaders (you probably have too) who get threatened by the success of their employees and end up sabotaging their own success because of it! Instead of falling into the ego trap of comparison, instead celebrate the success of your people and give them the real affirmation and confidence boost they need to continue to make space for you dreams to become a reality.
