Why being the best might be holding you back.
PERFECTIONISM The word has plagued me most of my life- the title being unceremoniously assigned to me as a young child with a propensity for excelling at all the measurable things that adults tend to praise. Only as I grew into an adult with an uncontrollable need for control did the dots begin to connect for me. Needing to be "THE BEST" at everything had limited me to only doing the things that came easily to me, or ones I could perfect in private and then present as a polished and finished product to the world around me.
A personal flaw, definitely. But when the growth of your business is held back, it's a recipe for disaster.
Is your need to be the best at everything in your business making you the lid to your own success?
The fact is, no business can grow beyond your capacity if you limit it to your own abilities. To truly flourish you must learn to appreciate the strengths others can bring to your life, not feel threatened by their unique geniuses! So, what do you do if you find yourself stuck- hitting wall after wall in your business because your own knowledge is able to take you only so far? Change your perspective
Instead of seeing your lack of knowing it all as a flaw, think of it as an opportunity! The idea that you could possibly be the best at everything is not just naive, it's downright prideful. Building something great can't start and end with you alone. It will require bringing other people into your vision if it's truly going to be something great. Force yourself to trust others
When learning to let go, you also have to learn to trust that your way isn't the only way. There is no doubt that mistakes will be made. Others will do things you might not love at first, but ultimately you have to be willing to let go of having everything done your way in order to grow, as a person and as a business.
The process of unraveling the need to be perfect is a lifelong journey, but it's well worth it. Too many small business owners are stunted because the need to have all the answers is just too important to them. Don't be the lid to your business!
